Aid & Scholarships for Future Teachers
The Teacher Development Center offers several scholarships for high school, undergraduate and graduate students. Each scholarship has specific requirements based on the purpose of the scholarship. The amount of the awards may vary from year-to-year and are awarded by a committee. Please read the criteria and requirements carefully to ensure you meet the qualifications.
Listed below are ways students can receive aid for school and also is a listing of scholarships specifically for teachers from a variety of sources. Please note every deadline and criteria for the scholarships are all different.
Other scholarships may be available through the UTD Office of Financial Aid.
Aid for Students
When you submit a financial aid application to the Office of Financial Aid, you are seeking help with funding your educational expenses. Some forms of funding do not have to repaid, while students loans require repayment with interest and work study requires employment. Exemptions, waivers, and veteran benefits each have application processes outside of the general financial aid application process. The types are aid programs are listed on the link below.
UT Dallas Comet Promise
Beginning fall 2022, the UT Dallas Comet Promise expands the current Tuition Promise program by increasing eligible family income threshold and including transfer students. Eligible students will have their tuition and fees covered through scholarships, grants and tuition exemptions from federal, state and institutional funds with any remaining tuition costs covered by Comet Promise funding.
Financial Aid to Veterans

Scholarships for Students
Philip Allen Teacher Development Endowed Scholarship
The Philip Allen Teacher Development Scholarship is open to students enrolled at UT Dallas, pursuing certification through the Teacher Development Center, and participating in a clinical/student teaching experience during the semester the scholarship is awarded. The scholarship is intended to ease the burden of the unpaid clinical/student teaching experience. Selection is made on the basis of financial need. One $1,000 tuition and fee scholarship may be awarded per year. This scholarship is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Contact the Teacher Development Center at 972-883-2730 to apply.
Clinical Teacher Emergency Stipend Scholarship
Priority consideration for the Clinical Teacher Emergency Stipend Scholarship will be given to undergraduate applicants with exceptional need as determined by the 2021-2022 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Texas Application for Student Financial Aid (TASFA). Pi Lambda Theta Scholarships
As a member of Pi Delta Kappa teacher fraternity on UT Dallas campus, you are eligible for scholarships through the Pi Lamba Theta Student Scholarships. TEACH Grant
The purpose of the TEACH Grant is to develop Highly Qualified Teachers in High Needs Fields for schools serving low-income students. To prevent the grant from converting into a Direct Unsubsidized Loan, you must teach for 4 yeas within the 8 years of completing the TEACH eligible program. Call the Office of Financial Aid at 972-883-2941 and ask for the form to complete.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund
This scholarship has a February deadline. UT Dallas Hispanic students may qualify for this scholarship. Find more information about the criteria and deadlines by following the link below.
STEM Teacher Graduate Scholarships
Competitive-based scholarships of $2,500 each are available to students actively pursuing a graduate degree or credential/licensure for the purpose of teaching science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) subjects at a United States K-12 school. The scholarships are made possible by generous contributions from ManTech, AFCEA International and several of AFCEA’s regional chapters.
STEM Teacher Graduate Scholarships
Barbara Lotze Scholarship for Future Physics Teachers
Undergraduate students enrolled, or planning to enroll, in physics teacher preparation curricula and high school seniors entering such programs are eligible. Successful applicants receive a stipend of up to $2,000 and a complimentary AAPT Student Membership for one year. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years.
Mark A. Jefferson Teaching Scholarship
To support the needs of prospective Black male educators who want to fight for a more equitable tomorrow for their students and the world, the Mark A. Jefferson Teaching Scholarship exists and will support one extremely ambitious African-American male in his pursuit to become an educator for the future.

“Pass the Torch” Teacher Scholarships (Teacher Test Prep)
Through our annual Teachers Test Prep “Pass the Torch” Teacher Scholarships program, we award a total of $10,000 to aspiring K-12 educators: one $5,000 scholarship to a recipient planning a career in elementary education and one $5,000 scholarship to a recipient planning a career in secondary education.
Nancy Larson Foundation
The Nancy Larson Foundation is proud to sponsor scholarships for college students studying to become elementary school teachers. Juniors, seniors, and graduate students who have declared an elementary education major are invited to apply. Applicants should submit a completed application, official transcript, resume with employment history, activities, community service, and paid positions and/or internships involving work with children and a narrative about personal experiences that have inspired them to teach and personal traits they possess that will help them in their teaching career.
